Teaching

I met Stella a few weeks ago on the train, I think she said she was taking up teaching and that Trevor was going to be a maths teacher? That was a bit of a shock.

I know Alison V is already teaching at MFHS, and some of my other friends have taken it up as well. Is anyone in better touch with those guys or know what's happening at MFHS now days?

Our teachers must have been really good to inspire so many of the students to start teaching. When you count Tim and Elisa, that's a lot of teachers in the year. Either that, or they were really bad...

Well, I ain't a teacher yet - maybe, in about another 8 years or so.

Trevor is definately studying to become a HS maths teacher. He's living on campus at a QLD university. He's probably half way through his degree by now.

It is pretty cool to hear so many other students from our HS are taking it up. But on the other hand, I might just be competing with them for a job.

An update on Elisa:
She will be quitting teaching for an indefinate amount of time, and going down to live with Trevardy - I think. I believe she now wants to work in the private sector for a while. Too much stress I think.

That sure puts things in perspective. I mean, Maths... wow.

Also, quitting teaching... wow. I thought she'd just change schools to be closer to Mr T (I think it's time we started calling him Mr T, he's an adult and everything).

I believe there has been an incident, which has made her reconsider teaching entirely. Apparently she was at a cafe or something in North Sydney, and she thought someone was going to throw a chair at her because she was used to it at School. I don't know any more details apart from that, and the fact she is really stressed.

Was the chair thrower in question Bo Zhu? I'm sure we were all used to that.

I think it doesn't help that all the new teacher have to go to the schools that no one else wants to go in order to earn enough points to go to a place where the kids are nice.

I think, when she graduated, she could choose an area to be placed in, or choose individual schools (you could choose 50, for example) to be placed at, if they had an opening.

I think she was caught by surprise with this, and just chose "Campbelltown" area.

Consequently, she was placed in one of the worst schools in the area, methinks.

But I agree with your point. Of course there is a teacher shortage - but surprise surprise, the shortages are at bad schools to work at (and rural areas). Not sure how this can be fixed - perhaps locking the kids up in a fight cage, and placing bets on who will be the winner? Wait, will this go on my record?
